Info for Peak Oil Event - Thurs 4th Sept 08:
THE END OF THE AGE OF
CHEAP OIL
Challenge or Opportunity for Kerikeri? Presented by
Transition Town Bay of Islands
Thursday 04 Sept, 7pm The Venue, Wharepuke, Kerikeri FREE ENTRANCE
A screening of the film:
"The Power of Community - How Cuba survived Peak Oil" In this film, Cubans share how they transitioned from a highly mechanized, industrial agricultural system to one using organic methods of farming and local, urban gardens. It is an unusual look into the Cuban culture during this economic crisis, which they call "The Special Period."
At present, Cuba is the only country who faced the challenges posed by Peak Oil. Despite the recent drop in oil prices, most industry watchers still forecast a worldwide Peak Oil situation around 2010.
Transition Town Bay of Islands has two objectives: raising awareness about the challenges of Peak Oil and Climate Change, and engaging people to use all their creative talent to build a more resilient community.
